Inside The NFL Draft - 2008

It’s that time of year for National Football League fans. The scouting combines have begun and the time for hope for all of the teams in the league has started to spring throughout the teams. The time where deals are being made and rumors of the best teams and their positions are running rampant. The top ten teams are the one to watch but the question remains, what will they do? Here is a look at the top five teams and how draft day may play out for them.

1. Miami Dolphins — the big tuna has another franchise and a shot at rebuilding a once proud franchise. This pick is perfect for Matt Ryan (QB,BC) so they will have a solid young Quarterback to lead them into the future but with Parcells at the helm don’t be surprised if defense gets picked in this spot. Keep in mind this spot is for sale so for the right offer they will move down. Final Pick: Chris Long (DE, VA) He may seem like the dark horse but he fits the scheme and Parcells likes defense and gets what he wants.

2. St. Louis Rams — the Rams know one thing for sure they want defense and for that it comes down to Glenn Dorsey (DE, LSU) and Chris Long (DE, VA). The better choice maybe Long here with Dorsey’s stock slipping of late and injury issues. Final Pick: Glenn Dorsey. The problem is Long will be gone unless there is a trade and the Rams need defense so this is the obvious pick.

3. Atlanta Falcons — If Matt Ryan is available at this spot he is a perfect fit for the Falcons and can help put Mike Vick in the past, but if not the only other pick is Darren McFadden (RB, Ark) the best athlete in the draft can not be passed up here and may already be gone with how he has impressed. Final Pick: Matt Ryan. McFadden will have all of the hype but they need a Quarterback here and he is the best going at the position.

4. Oakland Raiders — there should be no way that Mcfadden will drop to this spot but if he does Al Davis will scoop him up in a heartbeat. If defense goes in the top two rounds than this scenario could happen for the Raiders, if not then look for the Raiders to bolster the front line with Sapp retiring. Final Pick: Darren McFadden. The Raiders signed Jason Fargas to a contract extension but you can’t pass on explosive player this late in the draft and he is a perfect fit for Al Davis and the silver and black.

5. Kansas City Chiefs — this is the only pick in the first round that should be set in stone. Jake Long (OT, MI) is the player that the chiefs want in this spot since they are losing Will Shields and Willie Roaf from the front line and need to get someone to help Larry Johnson stay healthy and create space. Final Pick: Jake Long. Unless there is a trade or Miami surprises the world by taking Jake Long he will be around and the Chiefs should be running to the podium to put this one in.

The one thing that is guaranteed is that the draft is full of talent at the top this year and teams will be scrambling to get the pick that they covet the most! Get strapped in this is going to be a wild ride!
