April 24, New York – The battle between offense and defense is on for this year’s draft picks.  With Miami already having signed offensive tackle Jake Long on Tuesday – thereby making him the draft’s number one pick – offensive players are starting off strong, but anything is possible from here.
 
Louisiana State University and Ohio State are both frontrunners in the race to bag the most draft nods, and the competition will no doubt prove to be fierce and unpredictable.  In that regard, executives at Bookmaker.com have shed some light on the draft by posting the following odds:

“Now that Long has officially gone number one overall and team wish lists are being revealed, the direction of the remaining picks is somewhat unclear,” stated Spokesperson for Bookmaker.com, Esteban Siles.  “Last year’s weakest teams are sure to make the draft interesting.  We will be watching Bill Parcels – A.K.A. The Master – very closely.”

Interestingly enough the New England Patriots were left off the National Games for the opening weekend. Could it because of spygate and whats surrounding that? Only time will tell.  Below are the announced games for the opening weekend. 

The NFL announced the 2008 Kickoff Weekend schedule, which features four national games, on Monday.

The New York Giants will host the NFL East rival Washington Redskins in the season opener Sept. 4, continuing the tradition of the Super Bowl champion hosting the Thursday night season opener. Kickoff will be at 7 p.m. ET, 90 minutes earlier than usual because of the Republican National Convention.

The Indianapolis Colts will host the Chicago Bears in Sunday night’s prime-time game, the first regular-season contest at Lucas Oil Stadium.

The Colts plans to play preseason games in the 63,000-seat stadium in August.

ESPN will feature a Monday night doubleheader — the Green Bay Packers, in their first game without retired quarterback Brett Favre, will host the Minnesota Vikings in the early matchup at 7 p.m. ET, while the Oakland Raiders will host the Denver Broncos in the late contest at 10:15 p.m. ET.

The rest of the 2008 regular-season schedule will be completed and announced in April, the NFL said.
